Welcome Home, Henry!

Boy, did I pick a bad time to adopt a dog from another state.

Right now, I have two adorable dogs, Ace and King. (You can read their backstories here.) They’re wonderful companions to my husband and me, and to each other.

Unfortunately, Ace is now 13 and was recently diagnosed with diabetes. So, I have to accept that he won’t be with us much longer. Which means King will need a friend in the near future.

Because of my allergies, there are a limited number of breeds I can live with, and one of them is schnauzers. As luck would have it, a friend found me a healthy schnauzer puppy at a breeder in Florida who would be ready for adoption this month. Right when the pandemic hit.

I was scheduled to be in Florida this month for a weeklong meeting, so I had planned to pick him up then and fly him home with me. But the meeting was cancelled – along with every other meeting in the world – so I had to find another way to get him home.

I looked into having a “pet nanny” drive him here and I could meet her halfway. No go. Every flight I arranged was cancelled. Again. And again. And again.

But finally, he arrived. Of course, we had to disinfect his carrier and wear gloves for the pick-up, but it was worth it.

Henry – named after the place my husband and I had our first date – is finally home and ready to become part of the pack.

Welcome, Henry!
