I remember seeing Jean-Paul Basquiat's art while I was still a college student in New York. I was in awe of his raw, authentic talent, use of color and bold, explosive expression. Naturally, I was thrilled when Alice + Olivia paid homage to him with an entire collection inspired by his art earlier this year. The collection included blouses, skirts, jeans, bags and a fabulous black leather motorcycle jacket.
The black leather motorcycle jacket is adorned with his trademark yellow crown and brushstrokes that are inspired by his works. With it, I'm wearing a long black and white Herve Leger dress with red suede Manolo Blahnik pumps and an Alexander McQueen skull print scarf around my neck.
As you can imagine, to me, this jacket is as much a piece of art as it is fashion and it anchors so many different outfits and looks. For more information on this amazing artist, you can check out his website at http://basquiat.com/artist.htm
If you have not seen any of Basquiat's work in person, I encourage you to check out any of his pieces that can be found in numerous museums around the world. They will leave you breathless.
